Egyptian Faience Lotus Chalice

An ancient Egyptian New Kingdom green faience lotus-form chalice with a disk foot, the body incised to replicate the petals of the flower.

New Kingdom.
Ca. 1550 - 1070 BC.
Height: 5 5/8 in. (14.5 cm).

These cups contained the various sacred perfumed oils and unguents that were used in both daily use and funeral ritual, they often were labeled with the contents.

Formerly in a German private collection; subsequently in a New York private collection.
