Minted in Calabria, 350-330 BC.

Tarentum (Taras) was founded in 706 BC by Dorian immigrants from Sparta. It became a commercial power and a sovereign city of Magna Graecia, ruling over the Greek colonies in southern Italy. The coinage features images of Taras (Phalanthos), the mythical founder of the city being saved from a shipwreck by a dolphin.
