Roman Silver Hair Pin

An ancient Roman silver hair pin with a terminal shaped as a hand plucking a small fruit, possibly a pomegranate.

Ca. 2nd - 3rd century AD.

Length: 4 1/2 in. (11 cm).

This hair-pin was likely worn by a woman of high status, as the pomegranate it features had connotations of good fortune and fertility in Roman society.
