Victory standing left, holding palm & resting right hand of shield set atop a captive.

Struck 244 AD.

Marcus Antoninus Gordianus was elevated to the rank of Caesar at the age of thirteen. While campaigning against the Persians under Shapur I, Gordian III was murdered by troops loyal to Philip the Arab.Victoria was the personification of victory. She was very popular in Rome and was worshiped by triumphant generals returning from war.
