Titus was the eldest son of Vespasian. He won fame as a legionary commander in the Judean War, capturing Jerusalem in 70 AD. Vesuvius erupted in 79, the first year of his reign, in 80 Rome burned; as part of the rebuilding, the Flavian Amphitheatre (the Colosseum) was dedicated.
