Egyptian Steatite Sema Amulet

An ancient Egyptian steatite Sema amulet.

Ca. 700 - 30 BC.
Height: 28 mm.

The Sema sign was a symbol of the union of the two lands (Upper and Lower Egypt) and of reunion in general. The Sema amulet was thought to insure proper reunification of the body in the afterlife.
