Roman Bronze Candelabrum

An ancient Roman bronze candelabrum consisting of a long quadrangular central rod resting over a tripod of feline paws; the upper section with janiform herm busts of goat horned Pan and a Maenad, with a flared cylindrical basin above with ivy leaf borders; the interior weighted with lead.

Ca. 2nd - 3rd century AD.
Height: 33 in. (84 cm).
Formerly in the J. Saladino collection, Santa Barbara, California, acquired from Foster Gwyn, San Francisco in 2007; previously in an old collection.
