Philip II, father of Alexander the Great, gained control of Macedon in 359 BC. Ca. 356 BC he acquired the gold mines of Mt. Pangaeum, married Olympias, and his horse won at Olympia. By 337 he was hegemon over all Greece, he was murdered the following year at Aigai by Pausanias.
