Greek Terracotta Plaques: Battle Scene

A group of five ancient Hellenistic Greek terracotta plaques depicting a battle between Macedonians and Persians. The Macedonian figure wears a linen cuirass and the Persians wear flowing hooded garments.

Ca. 330-300 BC.
Maximum height: 7 1/4 in. (18 cm).

The group is reminiscent of the battle scene on the famous Alexander Sarcophagus now in Istanbul. The terracotta plaques in this group were likely fixed to the side of a wooden Macedonian sarcophagus.
