An ancient Hellenistic Greek terracotta head of Dionysos, his hair pulled back under a fillet with a garland round his face.
The Greek deity Dionysos was associated with wine and vegetation, and by extension fertility. The god was popular in Rome under the name Bacchus or Liber Pater. The orgiastic rites of his retinue, the Satyrs and Maenads, are often depicted in Classical art.
