Fortuna seated left, holding rudder and cornucopia.

Marcus Antoninus Gordianus was elevated to the rank of Caesar at the age of thirteen. While campaigning against the Persians under Shapur I, Gordian III was murdered by troops loyal to Philip the Arab.Fortuna was the goddess of fortune and personification of luck. The common people regarded her as a divinity who distributed good and evil among mankind.
