Egyptian Faience Mayhes Amulet

An ancient Egyptian blue faience amulet of Mayhes, the lion-headed god, striding with his left leg forward on an integral plinth, wearing a shendyt kilt; his hands clasped under his chin, a suspension loop behind the head.

Third Intermediate Period,
Ca. 1069 - 664 BC.
Height: 2 1/8 in. (5.4 cm).

Mayhes, meaning, “the savage lion,” was a male lion-headed deity always depicted standing. Considered a son of the cat goddess Bastet, he aided the sun god in his fight against evil.
