Egyptian Bronze Nefertum

An ancient Egyptian bronze statuette of the god Nefertum, striding, bare chested, wearing a shendjit kilt, in his right hand he holds the khepech-scepter, he wears a beard and a tripartite wig surmounted by a lotus flower with menat supports and two incised feathers; suspension loop at the back.

Late Dynastic Period.
Ca. 664-343 B.C.
Height: 6 1/2 in. (16.5 cm).

The god Nefertum, in Egyptian mythology, was associated with perfume and unguents. With Ptah and Sekhmet, Nefertum was part of the Memphite Triad. He was the physical manifestation of the primordial sunlight and the sweet scent of the blue lotus flower. Nefertum was usually depicted as a handsome young man with a crown of blue water-lily flowers.
