An ancient Egyptian bronze Harpokrates-Khnosu; standing mummiform wearing a lunar disk and side lock of youth, with a regal beard, and holding a crook and flail.
Harpokrates, the infant son of Isis and Horus was a symbol of youth and fertility. He was essentially a patron deity of childhood, especially popular in the Late Period. Often depicting suckling Isis, wearing the side lock of youth, and with his index finger to his mouth. Khonsu, a lunar deity, pertained to all things nocturnal. As god of light in the night, Khonsu was invoked to protect travelers against wild animals, increase male virility, help women conceive, and insure fertility and protection of livestock.
