An ancient Daunian Funnel Krater with a protruding, stylized animal head and two handles on either shoulder, decorated in black and red slip with thick horizontal bands on the lip and body and a central panel with a checkerboard pattern and horizontal and vertical lines of varying length and width.
Despite the popularity of Greek and later South-Italian Greek figural pottery, Daunian ware continued in its localized production to the end of the 4th century BC. Daunian ware is more rustic compared to Black-Glazed and Red-Figure ware with which it is contemporary.
