Rev: CLCAESARESAVGUSTIFCOSDESIG PRINCIVVENT Caius & Lucius with shields and spears, simpulum and lituus between them.

Lugdunum (Lyons) mint, 27 BC - 14 AD.

Octavian, the great-nephew of Julius Caesar, rose to prominence following Caesar’s death. With his defeat of Antony at Actium he emerged victorius. He was declared Augustus in 27 BC, the first Roman Emperor.
