Antoninus was born in Lanuvium. Upon the death of Hadrian, who had adopted him, he persuaded the Senate to consecrate Hadrian for which he was awarded the title, “Pius.” His reign was one of the most peacefull and prosperous of all Roman emperors, He died of natural causes.
